Indigenous Research Ethics Training Module

Overview

The module, titled Bridging Perspectives and Worldviews: Indigenous Research Methodologies Training Module targets has been mobilized into a professional online curriculum.

This module targets health professionals and researchers collaborating with Indigenous communities, offering a concise, 60-minute framework for ethical research. It includes historical context on Indigenous peoples in Canada, addressing events like Indian Residential Schools and the 60s Scoop. Cultural safety tools such as Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing are introduced, facilitating the integration of traditional knowledge with Western science in health research. Key frameworks like OCAP, First Nations Data Governance, and the Tri-Council Policy Statement are covered to promote data governance standards. The module also outlines Eight Guiding Considerations (Sylliboy et al. 2021) for establishing and maintaining meaningful researcher alliances with Indigenous partners. The course concludes with a multiple-choice quiz assessing learners’ comprehension of ethical Indigenous health research.
