Community Led Solutions

Project Description

Building on the results from the UnPPAC and the ACHH Maritimes project including the health data analysis, this project titled “First Steps in Creating Community-Led Solutions to Improve Indigenous Children and Youth’s Wellness in Ear, Oral and Mental Health” is being carried out to address the high rates of ear, oral and mental health conditions in First Nation children and youth.

We complete interviews with community health professionals, youth and parents to find out about the experience of accessing treatment for youth/children’s ear, oral and/or mental health conditions. This information will help us to understand service availability in community, what is working well and where the supports are needed so we can develop community-led solutions for these specific health concerns.

Next Steps

In response to high rates of youth and children’s ear conditions, we are pleased to announce a new partnership with the IWK and Eskasoni Health Centre that will provide ENT services to children and youth. The clinic will serve children and youth up to age 16. The ENT clinic will go to Eskasoni on an as-needed basis. Community members will travel to Eskasoni to access the clinic.
