“Joe Medicine, from the RRFN Indian Residential School Survivors Working Group, talked about his own experience as an adult being called a “stoic” person. He didn’t know what the term meant until he looked it up. What he found was an unfortunate truth. Many years before, when he was just a child, he learned the hard way at residential schools to never show emotion. Crying was not a favourable option for the students, and it forever changed the way he relates to emotion, even now.”
